Terms of use

Sidekit is licensed under the PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0. This page summarises what that means in practice. The licence text itself is the authoritative document, and it travels inside the package.

This page is a summary, not a substitute. Where anything here differs from the PolyForm Shield 1.0.0 text, the licence text governs.

What you may do

Use, modify and distribute Sidekit freely, including commercially, for any permitted purpose. There is no licence key, no activation, no seat count and no prompt to accept anything. Mirroring the package into an internal or proxy feed is explicitly allowed — the licence was chosen over stricter alternatives precisely so that .NET shops can do this.

The one restriction

Any purpose is a permitted purpose except providing a product that competes with Sidekit, or that competes with any product the licensor provides using Sidekit.

“Competes” is broad by design. A product written in a different language, built on a different architecture, exposing a different interface, or running on a different platform can still compete. So can a product given away free of charge. This is the load-bearing clause and it is wider than most readers assume — read it before building on Sidekit commercially.

Patents

The licence includes a patent grant, with retaliation: making a written claim that Sidekit infringes a patent ends your patent licence immediately.

Notices

If you redistribute Sidekit, recipients must receive the licence text (or its URL) along with any required notice lines that ship with it.

Violations

A violation is not an immediate termination. From written notice you have 32 days to bring your use back into compliance.

Closed source

Sidekit is distributed as a compiled .NET global tool. The source repository is not public. The licence permits modification and redistribution, but in practice those grants apply to the compiled package you receive.

No warranty, no liability

Sidekit is provided as is, without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the licensor is not liable for any damages arising out of the use of, or inability to use, Sidekit. That includes direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential and exemplary damages: lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or a build or test result you relied on that turned out to be wrong.

Sidekit reports what your toolchain did; it does not guarantee your software is correct. Test selection is advisory and labels its own confidence. Treat it as an instrument, and keep your own judgement about what a green result means.

Pre-release

Sidekit has not had its first public release. Interfaces, tool names, response shapes and stored formats may change without notice before 1.0.
